My approach to model portfolios is clean and simple with minimal distractions.
Formerly working in-house at Spanx, I got to see the model selection process for campaigns firsthand; what got our attention in a portfolio, which images stood out, and which photos ended up in a pitch deck for potential models to hire for different projects. Being a photographer and being on the client side, I was given a unique insight into what clients actually look for in a portfolio.
I bring that experience to portfolio building for models. While it’s important to have a diverse portfolio, the more simple images you have the better. The clients want to see you and your personality with minimal distractions. This is especially important if you’re a newer model with limited experience in front of the camera.
Here’s a little secret about model portfolios that I learned while working as the in-house photographer at Spanx: simple sells.
I would look through pitch decks for models that were being considered for a campaign and they all had one thing in common; the simplicity of the photos chosen to pick the models. Simple lighting, simple styling, clean and simple retouching. It’s definitely important to have a diverse portfolio, but more often that not I see models skipping over simplicity and trying to fill their books over-the-top fashion and commercial tests
Rates Start at:
$450. Two hours. In Studio. Up to Four Looks. Sixteen retouched photos.
50% retainer required to secure your shoot
Additional retouched photos can be purchased for $25 each
Styling
Wardrobe and/or wardrobe stylist is not included in rates. You can keep it simple and style it yourself or find a wardrobe stylist.
Styling pieces to bring:
Jeans
Simple white tanks and tees
White or denim button up
Denim jackets
Simple underwear
After booking your shoot, we will work together on putting together your own simple and unique looks as not every model needs the exact looks in every portfolio.
Hair and Makeup
Hair and make is not included in rates. You will be responsible for doing your own hair and makeup or finding your own makeup artist.
Keep it light, simple and natural.
More than “no makeup” makeup, but less than a full glam look.
Please arrive hair/makeup ready to maximize your time while on set. If arriving ready is not an option, please let me know ahead of time so additional studio time can be booked, the additional studio time cost will be added to your base rate.
Please arrive on time, a few minutes early is best. Your time starts at the scheduled start time, not when we start shooting, please do not be late
50% retainer is required to secure your shoot day
The remaining 50% is due on or before the shoot day
Retainer is nonrefundable
Gallery images are not to be shared or posted online, they are for making selects only
No filters or self retouching on final delivered photos (facetune, vsco, unfold etc.)
A gallery will be delivered within one week of shoot date
Retouched photos delivered within two weeks from when I receive your final selects
Photos are for portfolios and social media posting only, allowing brands or other feature/magazine accounts use or repost photos for commerce is not permitted
